Born on November 3, 1981, in Mont-Saint-Aignan, Seine-Maritime, to parents who were teachers, Sylvain Julien quickly developed a passion for writing. He first began with school essays during middle school, and later, after studying medicine and pharmacy, he turned in 2002 toward the faculty of science, where he studied physics and wrote several short stories in his spare time.
After taking drawing classes during his early middle school years, he became a member of the Atelier Clérois, masterfully directed by Sauveur Cardona, from 1998 until the early 2000s. Finding little success with his overly unconventional paintings, he abandoned painting and began studying Japanese in 2004, while also developing an interest in research in number theory.
What was initially intended to become only a few comic pages ultimately evolved into a novel — the beginning of a four-volume fantasy cycle.
— On the origin of the Cycle of Albalöth
La Dimension Shiro pulled me in from the very first page. The atmosphere of Tokyo feels incredibly real, and Frank Hammett is the kind of character you don't forget easily. A gripping, original fantasy unlike anything I've read before.
Sahelios takes the story to a completely different level. Two parallel worlds, two compelling characters — and a race against time that kept me up reading until 2am. Brilliant storytelling.

The world-building in the Cycle of Albalöth is extraordinary. Sylvain Julien blends Japanese culture, fantasy, and mystery in a way that feels completely seamless. Can't wait for the next volume.
